My PP1260 has now covered 10000 miles… At approx 9000 miles I fitted a new front sprocket, 1 tooth less which I really like but it does sound noisy and slap a bit which I guess is down to not having the rubbers like on the OM front sprocket (chain adjustment is correct). I wanted to try the 1 tooth less sprocket before replacing front and rear sprockets and chain as a kit. I feel It needs a new chain but not sure about the sprockets especially the rear as I have seen posts where people replace the sprocket for after-market sprocket and carrier. I have always replaced as a kit but have read posts where people just replace the chain only, even at 10000 miles plus… What should I do? Thoughts please.
I changed the chain and sprockets yesterday, my 1260S now has 41k miles, so obviously this isn't the first time I've changed them, as previously I have gone for AFAM 15T front and Esjot 42T steel rear sprocket (direct replacement), however I have not been happy with the durability of the last DID ZVM-X chain, lasting less than 12k miles so this time I've gone for an AFAM 114L chain, getting the adjustment correct with the new chain was much easier than with the DID. The DID I removed had severe play in every link, it had been worked hard with both solo and pillion riding but was always adjusted and maintained correctly, that said I would have expected better mileage from it, time will tell with the AFAM. I work on the principle of, worn sprockets wear chains, worn chains wear sprockets, so always change as a set. WOW that’s high mileage but I guess I’m heading that way as for me there is no replacement, I really don’t like the V4, unfortunately there’s nothing I like about it, certainly don’t like the look at all
