Has anyone one else got a problem with the air intake ducts and top fairing alignment ie the designed shut lines at bottom of intake don't line up correctly?? While at dealer checked 2 used 1299's and the demo bike.....it apears they have the same problem. Has anyone else experienced this or know of anyone with similar issue?
Hi Royal Yes, attached. This is the left side....right similar but not so bad. The alignment is now so far out you can see daylight thru the gap....
This might be where it's been put together by someone? The front end of the 1299/1199R goes together a lot more solidly than the older 1199 as they have added an extra bolt underneath the nose cone and switched from plastic clips to small screws where the point of the side fairings connect into the nose. You have to be careful to get it all clipped together properly before doing up the bolts tightly, particularly the nose fairing and plastics under the light unit. It makes it more hassle to work on but it fits better. You'll probably find you can sort yours out just by man handling it a bit or maybe loosening a few of the bolts first?
Hey Royal Thanks for your advice. It makes sense. I did take the top fairing off to have paint. Replaced successfully with no issues; it's only recently it's started to come adrift. Tried numerous reconstruction permutations to get it all to fit again as you have suggested. I can't work out where it's going wrong. Bike in for service in couple of weeks so I'll get OYB to have a go. The fact that I've now seen other bikes with same problem led me to suspect it's more common which led me here to ask the question of others.
