1299 1299 Base

  1. Hi, It's been a year away from Ducati since I sold the 848 which was as an absolute cracker (a really nice example purchased through the forum). I've been riding an rninet this year which has been great fun and much more accessible for pillion and about town riding. Problem is I'm missing the character of the Ducati v twin and the occasional track time I used to enjoy.

I've had a bloody good read on the forum on the Panigale models and was hoping on some feedback on a couple of things.

How does the 1299 base (as it comes from the factory) compare in terms of stiffness and road comfort to the 848?

Are there 2 versions of the 1299 suspension available from factory- I've read something about the f versus p linkage but can't say I fully understand? I'm a 75kg rider and just trying to assess if I'm going to have issues with standard set-up and or need to spend for adjustment.

Has anyone successfully negotiated any cash off the 1299 base model manufactures price? I understand free Akras are available; fitting free?

  2. No cash off as such but got venture shield , renthal chain and sprocket and the fitting of a carbon gear box cover in the price. The Akra's include fitting by the dealer. My dealer said they have to contribute £350 towards the cost of the Akra's.

  3. I have a base model. Just finished scrubbing in the tyres.

It handles amazingly well out of the box. I've never been a huge fan of adjusting suspension on bikes. I've never had a bike where I felt that I had to. All have handled exceptionally well for road use with some pretty fast riding, knee down etc.

What I'm saying is the standard suspension is pretty awesome!

i think the F and P is height related for pillion etc judging by the owners manual. I've left mine as it is.

  4. f and p to do with the rate the shock squats f flat linear stroke ,,, p progressive stats lighter then tightens up at bottom of stroke as for two up riding,

  5. LOL I rode an 848 and it was agony, 1299 is like a big furry rocking horse in comparison. When I got mine it was set up more for track usage, which is what I prefer. Mirrors are crap as with all bikes I've had. Can't wait for manufacturer to bring out a helmet with rear view camera, then I can dump the mirrors.
