Hi guys I'm looking at a second hand 1299 with one owner it's body work looks good its had its 600mile service next one is due june 2016 and is currently at 2500miles. It has Ducati warranty till March 2017 asking price is 13k. Does that sound like a good deal or Not? Should I wait for some thing else to come up? I'm not in a hurry still have the 848 till it's sold. Just wondering if this is a good deal I should go for now. The mileage seems abit high to me as most 1299 are around 500miles. Thanks
Seems like a pretty good deal tbh with a year worth of warranty on it, the mileage for me means that it's bedded in nicely and better than a garage queen bike that may present issues, any problems with the engine will have presented by now
My concern was that it may have not been run in properly and thrashed early on and sold quickly. I didn't really think the flip side of that being problems will show quicker. I guess it makes sense. My 848 has been a nightmare so I'm a little wary of taking the plunge
Tbh mate, I'm not entirely convinced that most people are capable of 'thrashing' a 1299 on road, and only a few that could really work one hard on track. Despite what a lot of comments on here suggest about how hard they ride! Yes, agreed that the bike could have been ridden reasonably hard from cold etc but honestly I'm not sure that any damage that would have been caused by poor running in, would not have already presenting itself with smoking on over run etc, high oil usage etc. It will have warranty, if it is a good dealer then you should have loads of support. If u are that worried though, I'm afraid the only thing to do is to buy a brand new one. But what if u get a Friday bike....
I'm no expert but heard people mention on here something to do with CSS bikes having them on and being non-s model. Maybe it could be one of those? What that means to you with regards to being a good deal or not is dependent on your point of view I suppose.
California Superbike School UK: Hire Bikes Im a newbie here so would let others pitch in. Im also in a slightly similar situation. Read here: http://ducatiforum.co.uk/threads/previously-owned-by-ducati.39245/
California super bike school use panigales as the main track bikes now and sell um off when they finished with um.
@shyboy that's a hard one there was a lot of good and bad points being mentioned the misaligned panels would worry me but then as some one said lots could have been dropped and you wouldn't no. At lest the dealer is willing to sort it for you before you take it.
@cookster thanks I will try give them a Call to confirm were its from. As a school I wonder why they sell they're bikes with the first year
If it's the one in Bradford it's almost certainly an ex CSS bike. It's a big saving from new and as long as it's still covered by Ducati warranty ( I would certainly check this is the case with Ducati UK)I can't really see an issue with it if you are a cash buyer.
@duke63 not sure if I can put a link to the bike but it's in Bradford and the cheapest one on eBay so I'm sure we are talking about the same bike. I noticed it on auto trader ages ago and noticed it was back up on eBay. I was intending to hp it unless I could get a bigger deal cash but I couldn't get through to them. I'll check with Ducati to make sure.
Don't see the bike on ebay, the only one is almost 15k from Ducati Leeds and they say they were the supplying dealer. If it's a CSS bike it will have R&G carbon pads on the tank, R&G bungs on the sides, R&G carbon rear shock cover. Not sure what the issue is with ex-CSS bikes. They've all got about 3k miles on them, all got 600 mile service from Ducati Silverstone, all got at least a years warranty left. I had a chat with them and the bikes are in wet mode for the first few exercises and if the renter uses race mode then they become liable for the full value of the bike if they crash, although he said they only had one bike dropped during the year. The panels are removed when they get them and track fairings put on so panels are immaculate. Most/all of them have brand new tyres fitted for sale. At least you know what the bike has been through compared with a dealer bike of unknown ownership. Full disclosure: I wanted an 899 for a while and I picked up one of the CSS bikes from them. It was a cracking deal compared to dealer bikes, bike was immaculate and completely as described. I've also been on CSS day with my other bike and seen how the bikes are treated. It's not a track day, it's a learning day and the only bikes getting close to a thrashing were the guys who came with their own track/race bikes doing level 4. Sure, there will probably be one or two numpties from time to time thinking they'll give it billy big beans but, from what I saw, the instructors keep things under control. Anyway, I'm new so don't take any notice of my opinion.
I would happily buy an ex CSS bike. They are looked after meticulously. Another sign of it being an ex-css bike is that it will not only have the R&G bits on the tail/tank/engine but they also fit brand new tyres - not sure if they're the ones they're supplied with which they remove or whether they fit some new hoops. Sounds like a great deal, I'd buy it
