Hiya I've gone from the v4s back to a old haunt the 1299 . Been on the supercorsa tyres on all my pani bikes but this 1299 has michelin power 5 tyres on it. Any idea on the correct ish tyre pressure for this tyre on the 1299 . the rear tyre from the non ducati bike dealer is alot higher then the supercorsa that I'm used to. The front is at 2.2 bar but the rear was over 2.6 bar. The bike is for road use. Any ideas ?
Id stick with Ducati handbook pressures which is 2.3 bar front and 2.1 bar rear (rider only, no pillion). I run S22's on mine and they are absolutely fine with the book pressures.
Cool cheers I will reduce the rear to the stock supercorsa pressures as you are saying.. makes sense. Cheers m8
No problem mate and just a thought, id do a tyre set-up run too which is in the menu and just requires you from a stand still to accelerate up to the speed it tells you to on the dash and then hold it at that speed until it says its done, it just helps all the electronic aids and probably other things calibrate through the speed at which the front and rear wheels are rotating. Really hope im not teaching you to suck eggs but just thought id mention it.
I did it as couldn't really justify it. The v4 and v4s which I've ridden were both great bike for me. But do I regret going to the 1299 again . Well no except for idling through traffic with that heavy clutch Haha.. Had a quick spin last weekend in the single figure temperatures as the roads had not been gritted in oxfordshire, it was bloody cold though. Soon as I got on it , it felt fab and the twins torque was addictive again. You defo get more rider feed back from the grunt of the twin compared to the smoother v four in my view on the road.
Hiya never needed to do that set up as stuck with the stock supers. I will give it a go hopefully this weekend as long as it rains on friday to was the grit from the oxfordshire roads. Cheers
For street, Id be looking at 36/38 on those. The 1299 is brutal on tires and the factory recommended is definitely on the low side for street use unless you are made of money. I ran my SC at recommended and 1200-1800km tops for a rear.
The Ducati dealer I bought mine from said 1299's are the hardest on tyres. I've never run Supercorsas before, and I do like the grip. But oddly the front will need replacing well before the rear. I don't ride in the cold or wet, are there other summer tyres with the same grip that will last longer?
I've run the standard 2.1 and 2.3 since I've had my 1299 and never really had any complaints on the road. The manual does state to run the front at 2.5 when riding on bumpy surfaces. I've been playing around recently with pressures based on the reduced ambient temps over the autumn/winter period as logically, running 2.1 / 2.3 is a very different experience in 8-10 degrees vs 20-25 degrees. Increased front pressure definitely liven ups the front in terms of responsiveness, but also induces a touch of understeer mid corner, good initial turn in but less contact patch at lean. In terms of tyre choice, I've run the Rosso Corsa 2 over the last year and really happy with it. Has handled road and couple of track days on a really abrasive surface really well.
I ran Rosso Corsas for over 10 years before buying the 1299. I'd say the fronts were lasting 1.5 X as long as the rears. The Super Corsa front definitely feels like there's more grip at my limit. I wonder how the Rosso Corsa 2 compares?
