1299 1299 Mirrors

  1. Picked up the new bike yesterday and wow what a bike. But on returning home I ride down my alleyway and find its a lot tighter than my old bike despite the measurements ducati give compared to my old bike. Then to find I can't get through the gate without taking a mirror off.
Imagine this.... Sat on bike between two houses at a gate in full leathers with dogs locked in the kitchen so I can get the bike away, stuck at the gate with a bike to wide to go through. Shouting instructions at the misses through my helmet trying to explain where the tools are and she still can't hear me. Then removing a mirror to get in. I know the originals are a fixed stem and the 1199 mirrors won't fit. I like the original mirrors if only they rotated in!!!!
My question is... Does anyone know a way of making the mirrors fold?

  3. I have the option of a new gate which I'm waiting for the steel delivery but it would have been nice to have a little more room to spare. Bloody wooden frame and the door encroaching further too doesn't help.

  6. Were you trapped on the bike in the alleyway?

  7. Yeah it was frustrating. 15meters in with 2 inches each side then the gate frame. Without the mirrors there is plenty of room just a little tight at the frame.

  8. They changed the mirrors on the 1299 to a fixed stem, that's annoying!

  9. Haha this was the first thing I thought about when I saw the 1299!! I removed the mirrors from my 1199 a while back as I was spending most of the time with them folded back when in London traffic, and whenever I got out of traffic they vibrate too much anyhow so pretty much a waste of space imo. If I couldn't remove them I'd have to go back to not being able to squeeze through tiny gaps in traffic!

  10. I don't have the problem of London traffic but losing about 5 1/2 inches of alleyway due to frames and gates I have succumbed to getting the welder out of retirement and using my account with my local steel stockholders to make a new gate at the front of the alleyway that folds flat to the wall with a lost frame. Seeing as I'm at it I think I'll make my dads gas bottle locker which I said I would a long time ago.
