1299 1299 Multistrada Never Happened

  1. Anyone know why the 1199/1299 engine only ever went in the Panigale?

The 1198 Testastretta vtwin engine that came before the 1299 vtwin and then the V4 engines that came after it, have all been used in other Ducati models The 1199/1299 engine has never been detuned and used in other bikes in the range, it was only ever fitted to Panigale's.

    Any reason why?

  2. The Multistrada got the 11° (valve overlap) Testastretta engine, purpose built for the range. Not sure why the Multistrada got the V4, possibly to meet future emissions ? Having ridden a 180+hp 1098R, there is no way I'd want the V twin Panigale engine in my Multistrada, 150hp is plenty. Andy

  3. Just wondered why they never detuned the 1299 for the Multistrada?

Just thinking with no belts to worry about, it would make it a better low maintenance engine for adventure bikes that normally rack up more miles touring.
