So, I have an order down for the 1299 SL. Very expensive bike and really looking forward to having one. My only reservation is the resale value come 18 months down the road. What are people's thoughts on this? It was a little bit of a worry as to how easy it was to get one. Thanks
No idea mate The old superleggera seemed to hold its money okay? But not sure what the markets like to actually sell?
The 1199 aren't too bad but I spoke to a specialist who said he is buying 1199 SL's around the 30k mark and told me to avoid the SL and snap one up in 12 months for 20k less. I'm just wondering if it is going to be a situation similar to the 911 GT3's that are still commanding 100% premium. I don't want to miss out but still don't want to get stung. Ducati press release says "All sold" but I'm not so sure.
I assume the first paragraph in the last post was talking about both SL1 and SL2. I would tend to agree (as seems to happen with most special editions I have seen over the last 10 years), that initially (the first couple of months), you can demand a premium from anyone that missed out, but once that buzz dies down they lose a significant amount 1, 2, or even 3 years later. After 3 years though, they seem to gradually climb in value, and can sometimes get back up to original sale price, but only if you never used it. I would prepare to lose £20k if you plan to sell it in the next couple of years, but then, you would lose £10k on a new 1199R....
you know your going to loose money .its a bike for riding not an investment. I think you know this. if you can afford it then why not just buy it and use it, if we all go through life thinking of the finances we wont do anything. remember your here once and if you believe in reincarnation you may come back as a fly that gets splattered by your bike when it comes out of the museum for a quick run.
Anyone who does decide to sell after a while let me know as I'm sure unfortunately they will in my opinion loose a lot of money i got offered 2 its the first time i have ever ever turned down a bike. I love the special bike R only bike for me just could not justify £72k. Knowing soon they will bring out another bike half the price different shape different electronics and maybe just as good. I was going to sell my SL1 then had a change of heart would loose too much money. I do like the exhaust and before this bike came out i was going to buy some from JHP. So i might still buy some I'm sure all the new SL2 owners are going too love there bikes
Listen you fuck. Just buy the bike and enjoy it rather than coming on here and talking about resale values in 18 months.
No you've ordered the 1299SL2; that way you rub it in more to the original owners. Fantastic thread, please throw lots of images at us once it arrives.
300 of 500 sold according to the factory when I was at the Milan show - don't believe what the dealers tell you! I'm sure they will all sell though.
I guess the resale value will depend largely on a couple of things; 1) Is it any good, and will it go down as a legendary Ducati 2) Will they bring out something even better in a couple of years time that's significantly better and not much more expensive - The next Desmo ? I'm guessing it's going to be pretty amazing, so that's number 1 sorted As for whether they'll bring out something just as good for not much difference in price remains to be seen I keep reading rumours about a special homologation bike to get the WSBK effort back up and running ?
I've got a SL1 from 1992. All I can tell you is it will be with more in 18 months than it is now ........... hopefully !!
fine if you don't ride it. gonna de-value like hell if you ride it through the winter on salty roads like my 1299 daily commuter
Im buying one, delivery is August, could go this way same money but NEW, R1m, ZX10RR and HP4 Carbon(possible) but I dont really want them, I wont sell it less I have to, so being at this time its the only bike I want I have to part with 72k to get it, I think you got to ride it, cant just let it sit, need to find a better way of making money if that is the case. I have to say I feel totally good about it, and if you hold back and keep waiting for the next thing to come out cause it may be better would would never buy anything!
I will take to the track but can see me doing it justice, I am not that good and also more talented guys than me wreck bikes and I cant afford that! More chance of a road accident than a track one anyway! HP4, I saw it in Milan visually it didn't impress me (black carbon lacked imagination a bit), it was surrounded and I couldn't get to close and wanted to see other things, I didn't take notice of the forks, but it is "race" so I dont know if there is going to be a road version, maybe you do? thing is though if not the best its pretty close but I still dont want it, the one does interest me is the RSV4R such good bike and cost the deposit on the 1299SL give or take!
