1199 15/39 To 14/41... A Worthy Upgrade?

  1. I do admit, I miss the immediacy of the 1098/1198 lump so I'm thinking a sprocket change will give me back some of the old v-twin grunt down low.

Anyone done this mod and has feedback?

    Thanks M

  2. I'm interested in this also for the 1299

  3. That is a massive jump. Knocking 20mph off of the top speed. I know top speed isn't important, but It is an indication of how stark a change it is. Hitting the limiter at just over 160mph is very short gearing....

  4. I thought the same Jolley but isn't the 1199R on a 14/41 combo? Riders of Barnstable recommended this option. I initially just wanted a 15/41 combo ya see. Cheers

  5. I went up to 42t makes it a lot better, its actually civilised at lower speeds

  6. 1199r probably pulls 190 plus standard gearing though so easily manageable

You would need another chain too, so if you try it then there's no cheap way to go back. May be worth plus2 rear or -1 front first, standard chain, see how that works :)

  7. Cheers fellas. I think I'll pop for a new 41 rear sprocket to start and see how it goes. She needs new tires and an MOT so may as well lump it in with that.

What's the expected cost for a new rear sprocket and labour?

  8. it's an easy job, but dealer may charge an hours labour. If you can take a rear wheel off you can change the sprocket :upyeah:

  9. Took them nearly 2 hours for new chain, front and rear sprocket on mine, so definitely less than an hour for just a rear.

  10. As it's twin swingarm, does it have special sprockets ? The multi etc are a fortune where my gixer, triumph etc are £30 a go.
