any advice on tyres for a 900SS stock tear is 170 and there doesn’t seem to be a lot to choose from and from what I have read 180 in some brands doesn’t work too well (rubs)?
A 180 is likely to rub a hole in your rear hugger. Been running Bridgestones on mine for the last few years.
BT016 Pros seem a good, widely available and cheap tyre. I had Dunlop Qualifier II's fitted and punctured a nearly new rear which I have paired with a BT016 - quick 10 mile ride suggests it is an ok setup.
170/60 and 180/55 are the same rolling diameter, so it’s all down to the extra width. Pirelli actually recommend the 180/55 size for your bike though the Angel2 is available as 170/60. https://www.pirelli.com/tyres/en-gb/motorcycle/all-tyres/fitment/ducati/900-ss-sl-1991-1997
Not using the hugger so can't comment on rubbing but the 180 Metzler M7RR has been great on my 1992 900ss. Its thinner than the 180 Pirellies that I'm using on track so doesn't come close to the chain. Highly recommended.... If it clears the hugger :-/
1995 900ss/cr with a 5.5" rear wheel. 180/55 Pirelli Diablo Rosso III fits fine with no rubbing on the hugger and room to spare.
