i'm going to sell my 1997 748 SPS. MOT until June 2016, 24384 miles. Bought as a 1998 bike, but checking with Ducati shows it has a '98 engine but a '97 frame. Previous owner not fastidious about paperwork - didn't tax it after 2011, and didn't bother registering it in his name either! It has some history - '98, '99 and 2000, then 6 year gap and 7,000 miles until 2006, followed by 5 year gap until 2011 but only 350 miles in that period. I've done a service on it - filters, fluids, belts, valve clearances and had the front forks serviced. It has Pirelli Diablo Rossos on with lots of life left. 50mm Termis currently fitted, with matching ECU, and original silencers plus chip included. Rear stand too. Horrible yellow screen in pictures has been replaced with clear double bubble. I have £3750 tied up in it - I'd prefer it to go to someone here who knows what they're talking about and will use it as it should - I've done about 100 miles in total, and quickly got back on to my Multistrada. might be a bad time to sell ? End of the season and it's noticeable that bikes on other forums aren't selling either
I would say its wanted, great bike A yellow 748 is on my list for the future as always wanted the 916 shape, just not yet as other project on the go, could be as mentioned above, From your information its a 97 sps but not with the original sps engine or have i got that wrong about sps engine spec.
By the looks of what I've found, it's a 98 SPS with a 97 frame. The frame could have been SP, but as there's no difference, hard to tell. The fairing side panels aren't "correct" either, as the vents and logos are from a letter model. The tank and seat are original.
