916 1997 916sps Brake Rotors

  1. Trying to get a 1997 916sps back on the road. It came with some truly nasty EBC front rotors, manged to get some other slightly better rotors but they are not correct. Anybody know what model they are off ?

I know the round/triangle are correct, anybody know what others are off ?

  2. The second picture looks like triple eight discs to me:thinkingface:

  3. 888 sp 748 sp 916 sp all have cast iron fully floating brembo as per 2nd pic,, the 1st pic look like monster or multi strada

  4. Not wishing to hijack the OP’s thread but as the 2 pics above are already posted, how can one tell the difference between fully floating and semi floating discs? TIA

  5. The amount of float inbetween the disc and the carrier, if you had 1 in each hand you’d feel the difference straight away.. other than that it’s knowledge or experience really

    • Thanks Thanks x 1
  6. No worries, I only know a little about fully floating because superlight has them & I thought something was binding first time I pushed bike. Sound terrible to the uninitiated!

  7. All my research shows that 851 sp3 888sp4 & sp5, 900sl + 916 sp & 916 sps should have the bottom pic, circle/triangle pattern cast iron fully floating brakes.
Now I have a set of EBC copies & set of the first pic above.Time to fire EBay account up & recover some funds.

  8. The theory is the disc waving from side to side gyroscopically pushes the brake pads into the callipers slightly, creating less friction between the brake pad and disc . A normal human would never benefit really. But all these minute gains do add up to make a difference in racing
