It's taken years but SPS will finally... hopefully be back on the Queens highway soon. Need a chain guard for MOT, did 1997 SPS have a carbon guard or standard plastic affair? ... Can't believe I'm even researching chain guards!
As far as I was aware, none of that era came with carbon as standard, you had to buy it from the catalogue. Andy
It came with a box full of period carbon, even a carbon wind shield! The only thing missing is a chain guard
Carbon windscreen ? Not sure about that. If you go plastic, remember that the chain guard rear fixing to the swing arm, should have a steel backing bracket to support the plastic. If I can find mine, I'll post a picture. Andy
The R came with a plastic guard and still available at a reasonable price from Ducati Pretty sure they were the same across the range
Looking forward to the pictures on this one, but in the meantime i'm on the couch in my pants watching Cavendish doing his thing.
Falloon suggests the 916SP and SPS came with CF ones as standard, presumably for homologation. In some of his books there are photos that suggest so too, not sure myself. The SP/SPS parts books only showed the CF one with part number 44610021B which was included on the 916SP/SPS books right up to the 996SPS. The plastic standard one is widely used inc the 748R and has part number 44610021A. CF one was ten times the price according to some of the online parts info.
The 916 SP3 had CF chain guard, CF front mud guard, CF V-panel, and CF number plate holder. Had mine from new and it is as sold by Ducati at the time if that helps...?
