Just looking at booking in a few track days at Brand Hatch and says 2 piece leathers must zip up for 360 degrees. I have 2 piece set ready (Alpinestars Atem jacket and Track pants) for the track but there is a couple inches gap at the front; from what I can see these are track orientated leathers so will these be allowed or do I need to get them altered or something else?
i used to do track days in 2 peice leasthers mate and never zipped um up and they never got checked. but that was a few years ago, is it an option to get a cheap 1 peice leather suit??
Thanks - yes its an option but I purposely bought another 2 piece set to use for track form what I'm reading they need to be altered or buy a one piece. From what I can see they are now actively checking but I haven't ever seen 2 piece that zips up the whole way round.
To my knowledge there isn't a 2 piece out there that zips 360 degrees. I have a Dainese 2 piece and it's not been questioned so far. If my memory hasn't let me down, I think it's only been checked once. With the Alpinestars you'll be fine it's the short 6 or 7" zip they are looking for. Andy
There are some types of leathers where the jacket is attached to the trousers by a short zip at the back, only 6 inches or so long. This is not good enough for the track. There are also some types where the zip is stitched to a thin piece of cloth, not directly to the leather; these are also not good (although very unlikely to be checked). Any leathers which zip together all around both sides with a firmly mounted zip are good. The "360 degrees" is not to be taken too literally.
as above. I think they just don't want the little 6" at the back but all (most) the way round. If it goes 3/4 of the way you will be fine (probably). Mine has a gap about 5" and i was fine at Brands.
I use a 2 piece for my track outings, but because I no longer use it for the road, I've had the 2 halves stitched together just for that little bit of extra peace of mind and in the event of any overly keen inspection
