749 2003 749s - Best / Cheapest Battery

Discussion in '749 / 999' started by Fire3500, Apr 19, 2016.

  1. Tapping into the hive-mind...

    What's the best / cheapest option for a decent battery for a 2003 749s?

    Cheers

  2. Halfords are pretty good if you want a decent guarantee. Lots of cheapo ones on eBay but then you take a chance.

  3. Yuasa from mds batteries enfield. Next day post.

  4. Second for yuasa batteries, minds now 3 winters old, look after it on an optimate and its excellent value for money:upyeah:

  5. Cheapest and Best, well may be in the battery world this is one and the same.
Probably not, as it all other walks of life!

  6. Yuasa batteries I believe are the only acid style that guarantee no leak when used at up to 90 degrees like needed in the 749/999 that alone is a valid reason as an acid leak is not at all needed or wanted

  7. I had a Bosch one on my 999 from Halfords, no issues at all

  8. MDS have branches all over the country.
I just went and collected my Yuasa from the local industrial estate :)

  9. Second the Yuasa and the optimate suggestion. Lot's of people have had issues with cold starting on 749s but I never have. I put it down to the optimate.

  10. Bit of a repeat from me really but, look after the little bits and the big bike will look after you, :upyeah:

  11. Nitro gel battery arrived along with Exact Start kit... I am hoping for an explosive start after tinkering tomorrow!

  12. Not sure quite what a nitro gel battery is but AGM batteries like the Yuasa have more oomph (CCA) than a conventional gel battery

  13. Looks like Nitro (brand) gel battery, cheap, bickers catalogue budget range!! As long as he to charge to 12.5v before he fits to bike and tries I guess he should be ok, then buy an optimate to take care of it

  14. Either that or there'll be an explosion!

  15. I bought an optimate years ago when I first had my first battery problem, best thing I've ever done, when I sell my bikes I sell as wired for optimate and buy a new adaptor for about £4.50 for the new bike,

  16. Looked up Nitro.
They certainly make some pretty extreme claims for them

  17. Best and cheapest is something that doesn't go together... and when it comes to batteries really not worth going cheap.
I also say Yuasa for a standard battery, but since I converted my bike to a full trackday bike I changed to Ballistic battery, 1/4 of the weight of the original one and works very well.
    Ballistic Performance Components

  18. Wise words. I will never understand why anyone buys an expensive bike that drinks fuel and eats tyres and then wants to save a few quid on parts for that bike.

  19. Got mine Yusa from mds battery's and as already stated delevered next working day. Don't mess with cheap batteries. They'll only do more harm than good in the long run.

  20. MDS are now BBS I think
