2005 999 throttle body adjustment

Discussion in '749 / 999' started by salmore, Feb 26, 2014.

  1. Hi,

Not sure if any of you have done this yourself before, i'm getting ready to do so.
I've got the tools on order. Just wanting to ensure I have all the details correct.
Here is a diagram of the inside of the Air Box (correct me if i'm wrong), and this is where the vacuum gauge needs to be connected and where the adjustment screws are located.

Can someone tell me / point out on the diagram where to connect the vacuum gauge pipes to, and which screws are the ones to use to adjust the pressure to level the bodies?

  2. If they're anything like the 1098 the adjustment screws are big brass buggers and cant be missed!

  3. Just a quick one to add to that (hopefully i can find the screws), this is also where I can adjust the idle speed right, somewhere in the the airbox?

  4. Always thought that balancing the TBs was a black art only practiced by shadowy figures steeped in Ducati lore?

  5. i did it ,even with my big monkey hands . well worth it as i had a bit of slack in mine , the next mod you want to do is fit a 1999 R1 twist grip as it it has a bigger cam and works like a quick action throtle ,a very cheap mod

  6. I thought it was an 04 R1 throttle tube?

  7. it is , don't know about 99 one , possibly.

  8. Lazy feckers. Just twist your wrist faster :)

  9. my bad , maybe it was a 04 ? all i know its a little quicker

  10. For For more than 2 years I thought my bike had a big flat spot and was gutless until I realised I was only opening the throttle 60% which is the equivalent to all the way on everything else.

Its an open and a twist to open it all the way up and so an R1 tube is on my list!

Oh, and my mpg went down after realising it was me

  11. The vacuum take offs are in the inlet manifolds. There is no reason at all to take the lid off the airbox. The air bleeds are accessed thru two rubber bungs on the LHS of the airbox.
do not touch the throttle stop screws or throttle tie rod. Idle speed and balance are all adjusted with the air bleeds.

  12. Thanks will be doing this this week, will look for the rubber bungs.

  13. Took off the tank, took off the fairings. started, only found 1 rubber bung on the side and that only let me see the cable from the fast idle so meant i had to take airbox off. Started doing so, the bolts were ridiculously hard to get at. then turned out i had to take off the side air vents to take the top of airbox off, could not get those off as front fairing was in the way, took that off, then realized the cooling container for the coolant was in the way and could still not take off the air vent to take off the top of the air box. after a good 5 hours, i just gave up and put the thing back together... definitely does not look like ducati wants you to touch this, plus i could not find much in a way of instructions online nor in the workshop manual on how to balance them properly. Gave up for now.

Might just pay someone to do it at a dealer and throw my wallet and car and house at them.
