Has anyone owned or rode on of these I've found a nice looking track bike and I'm considering getting it as a second bike and maybe put it on a daytime MoT, I know they didn't get the best reviews when new but the bike has a good spec and would like to get a bit of feedback from people who have rode them, what did they like and what they didn't and whats the best mods for them Cheers
If you are going to track it, then the standard brakes are appalling. I tried several different types of pads with no luck, they will fade in 2-3 laps. Nice on the road with a mental engine
Thanks for the info it has AP racing callipers hopefully that will cure that problem, so would you say apart from the brakes it should be a good bike for the job
a friend of mine has one in road trim. when he keeps it upright its mental. one of the heavier zx10r's but easy peasy to strip weight off. does it come with adult nappies
I'm hoping its not going to be too much hard work to ride fast. I can remember fast bikes had one as a long termer and said it had ground clearance issues but rear sets sorted it and they said the handling improved massively with a 55 profile tyre. I think I will go for it it's a clean bike with a lot of nice parts on someone has spent a fortune on it
surprisingly polite and easy to ride at mere mortal roads speeds wind it on and its an absolute missile i have seen most ppl running 180/55 rear on track
If it hasn't got one already you really need to fit it with a Brembo 19x18 radial master cylinder and braided hoses or you'll suffer from brake fade such as you've never known before. Apart from that I'd say go for the earlier 04/05 model because they're much more fun and I'm not just saying that because I've got one. Kawasaki got such bad press for the C1 because it was a bit frisky that they went over the top when they tried to calm the bike down with the 06/07 model.
I rode a friends 07 model around a closed airfield - and I liked it. The power was superb, and was delivered in a way that Kawasaki seemed to have mastered - very raw, with a great air-box noise. I didn't have a chance to get used to it, but first impressions were very good. I was so impressed that I wanted one, but the money wasn't available.
It does have a bit of a problem with ground clearance, the fairing will touch down shortly after the pegs, and with the weight high up with the cans it is a bit of a bus on track, but can be made to handle quite well. But you still have to love that engine
Get this months performance bikes. They've got a article about that model of zx10 and what mods to do. AP calipers and discs was one.
This bikes had a lot done ohlins fork internals and shock, ap callipers on Brembo discs and master cylinder, akra system rear sets and lots more, just can't make my mind up if I want to part with the mx bike to get it :/
That bike sounds like the one that used to belong to Trevor franklin, a columnist for pb. It's in this months mag.
I would like to point out that although the 06 and the 07 look the same, they do behave differently, i had an 06 zx10r and it was a FU**ING animal, kept you awake and if your riding it hard you have to be 100% switched on all the time. i would go as far to say that it would out perform my 2011 gsxr1000 in acceleration ant top end (my zx10 showed 189 on the speedo then froze on 189 but the rev counter carried on going up) if i had to try to explain the differences between the zx10 and the gsxr i would explain it like this... If you have two rottweilers both as mad and insane as eachother BUT the one called gsxr is fully trained and will only go nuts when you drop the lead and say "go on" the other one called zx10r is always going nuts and your holding it back on its lead. I found that 9/10 people who bad mouth the 06 zx10 have never ridden one and only repeating the bad reviews that call it soft (it really isn't) but going back to what i was saying about the 06 vs the 07, the 07 has got a slightly different (cleaner) ecu map and slightly larger catalist reducing it's power from the 06 bike (2007 was when the tighter emmision rules came into effect) and i learnt what i learnt when i ordered a PC3 for my 06 and found different maps for a stock 06 or 07
