2013 Isle of Man TT (spoiler)

  1. Couldn't help feeling sorry for John McGuinness, you get the feeling he was more cut-up post race than he was letting on. He's such a creature of habit that I even wonder if racing in different leathers distracted his mindset slightly.

  2. He did not look a happy puppy

  3. Thats the TT thou isnt it. Sh1t happens on that course and its a matter of endurance as much as raw speed. Saying that a 60sec penalty is a bit harsh. Still a great result for Dunlop. He and Marquez are the two most exciting men in motorcycling at the moment

  4. I'm glad Michael is getting some 'proper' wins under his belt as hopefully he might calm down a little. Might just be me, but watching him in previous years going up against his brother he seemed to have a bit of a death-wish about his approach at times.

  5. Very impressed with ITV's filming and presentation this year, best ever imo.

  6. Well thats three from three now :upyeah: What an awesome performance so far

  7. Dunlop...poss TT spoiler

How fecking good is he this week?! Clean sweep on the cards.....who'd bet against him?!

Note: written without knowing if he won the superstock, its still on TV.

  8. And again in the ss race today - glad I have this set to record on my TiVo, will catch it when the kids are tucked up in bed later.

  9. Looks like he's controlling his aggression. I do kind of wish they would show other riders rather than the usual suspects, a 50/50 split on pointy end to mid, lower end. I'd like to hear newcomer stories. Anyone who competes is a hero IMO

  10. He is a completely different man these days, calm and relaxed, riding perfect machinery without any of the worries of preparing bikes . The Honda Legends team has contributed in no small part to his different approach to riding. He looked awesome this week and I am delighted for him.

  11. Agreed, riding for a team where he doesn't have to prepare his own bikes has a number of knock-on effects:

    1. He knows that the bikes will be really, really good, so doesn't need to worry about them, or spend time preparing them
    2. He can spend the time he would have spent preparing them in the gym
    3. By riding for the Legends team he probably doesn't have to work, thus more relaxing lifestyle and can look after himself more
    4. By being fitter, and more relaxed, it easier for him to ride the bikes when he is on them, and he can now tuck behind the screen and go quicker
    5. Being faster breeds confidence, which makes it easier to go faster

It's a perfect vicious circle. Hard to see how he can lose this week, although Anstey has pushed him hard. McGuinness has been thrashed by Dunlop in every race, only really Bruce Anstey and Cameron Donald have taken it to him.

  12. wouldn't want to be John McGuinness at the end of this week. I really hope he 'regroups' and comes back strong next year but I partly wouldn't be surprised if he'll even have thoughts of retiring.

  13. Listening to Johns interviews on Manx Radio throughout the week, talking about handing the baton over......I think he's wise enough to realise that Dunlop in the shape he's in and with a proper team behind him now ain't never gonna be realistically within anyone's grasp.......

Here's hoping for John for the big race......20 wins would be a nice round figure should he decide to bow out.

  14. Erm, 'scuse my ignorance but 2 questions.

    1. What's the difference between the Superbike race and the Senior race?

    2. What's Hutchy doing this year - injured? - thought he'd recovered.

  15. the bikes are the same. inthink its just the prestige of the final race / award

  16. Thought so. Can't quite understand why everyone gets so excited about the Senior race. If it was over 8 or 9 laps then OK but it's still 6. - Maybe they're all so chuffed about the fact that they're still alive by the end of the week to take part.

  17. The Senior is different as the field is smaller, with the slower riders not allowed in. Not sure the exact percentage. You can also ride whatever you want in the senior (no sidecars thou), but as the Superbikes are the faster bikes, those are the ones the got out. If it was quick enough you could go out on a Supertwin. You wont win thou. Oh and the trophy is much, much bigger
Hutchy is commentating or on general press duties this year and his leg is still f-ed. Following his twitter account he says that its just not strong enough after the two nasty breaks.

  18. Anstey has indeed done well considering his health issues, but apparently feeling better, so watch out for him in the senior race :upyeah:

  19. I said that a couple of years ago when Hutchinson destroyed the field. Been proved wrong, but I wouldn't wish Hutchinson's injuries on anyone, has he been back on a bike and been competitive since? I'm not sure.

  20. hutchinson did do well...but he did benefit from some good luck too
