Not sure if this has been covered yet but it looks very promising that Ducati are launching a new Monster with a proper Monster of an engine (about time for me) Since the old S4Rs days i must admit they've kind of been watered down for me, also they've tended to shrink considerably and my 6ft 3 frame no longer fits any of the Monster range. Ive always been a big fan of the 1098SF which i think will now probably move to a Panigale based bike. But just looking at these pictures to me it definitely looks like the new monster will be bigger in stature (bits borrowed from the Diavel) but with a new 150bhp + engine, probably new electronics etc i reckon it'll be Ducati back to its best and hopefully delivering something brutal. 2014 Ducati Monster 1198 Spied ยป Motorcycle.com News
I must admit I could be very interested in one of these, love the engine in my PP so look forward to seeing it for real
So long overdue. The 1100 Monster that replaced the S4RS is pathetic with only ninety-odd hp for an 1100cc engine.
And stick an ugly watercooled lump in it and it will become a Monstrosity... I had an S4RS and they're nothing to get excited about ( unless you had a full system  ). At least with an EVO you don't expect it to be stupid fast being air cooled, having said that it would still give an S4RS a good run for it's money. Of course we are believing what the press are telling us, it may be called something totally different and then we'll all be saying what a fantastic bike that is...
Quite like the Monster as an air cooled 2v simple engine. Just can't see the point in making it into something it never really was. I guess the 2v air cooled motor wont meet many EU regs on noise and emissions.
I just want a BIG monster, obviously a better engine is just a bonus. The new monsters are all bloody tiny for me, the SF is much better but i quite like the monster shape so ill have one with 150bhp, TC, maps and some dirty loud pipes thank you muchly
Oh PLEASE God, make it with a larger 20 litre petrol tank, keep away the bloody electrickery gadgets, give it nice big white and round analogue clocks and for Christ's sake, give it a dry clutch!....if they do all that, I'll put my money down for a deposit now!.....
That's exactly what I'm looking for Nc! Just started looking but they appear to be as rare as hens' teeth! .... it's got to be with the 998 Testastretta lump in it though!....and preferrably red...with low mileage....if anyone is reading this, who knows where I might find one?.........
I agree, being a recent Monster owner I have to say I don't think a Monster needs more than 100hp. My 900 has 'enough' power for the kind of bike it is, If I want a bike with 150hp+ (and I do) then I would want it faired and with an arse-up, head-down riding position. Maybe I'm getting too old?..
I completely agree, 100bhp on an unfaired sit up bike is plenty , especially the way the 1100 delivers the power. Funny thing BHP. I remember back in the late 70`s/early 80`s when the 900ss bevel had 68 bhp which seemed plenty then, Cant recall anyone complaining they were underpowered. I`m not saying progress is bad but I remember an old Bike magazine headline from when they were testing a Suzuki GSX. Much Too Fast Enough ! Sums it up really well I think.
