I haven't seen anything lately on this subject and need to put a new set of rubber on my old 900SS. Nothing too sticky that won't steer when cold, but a decent compromise between trackday use and bimbling to the pub Thanks in advance..
We just stuck a set of Pirelli Diablo Rosso Corsas on my Dad's 750SS and they're great. I've got them on my 748 and thought they might be overkill on the SS but father reported it back as being a hoot. They were not scrubbed in when I rode it but it felt great on them.
I tried something new last time - Michelin Pilot Power 2CT - and am going to be getting another pair, well recommended for fast street riding, amazing turn-in...and steady grip right to the edge.
Well it would appear that if you want to keep the 170/60 at the rear, rather than the ubiquitous 180/55, the choice is a little limited. I'm going to go for Pirelli Diablo Rosso 2s. Got some nice shiny powdercoated wheels to put them on too
Yep, I've heard they are really have loads of grip and old plonkers like me will struggle to get them moving around! Also heard today that there is a mad deal on Diablo Stradas on M&P Site - £99 a pair
i'm looking for a close match to the original Michelin A/M59 tread pattern. the pirelli diablo is a sort of 'match' - as it has angular tread and the phantom supersport has a very regular pattern like a 1990's tyre any others i should be considering?
I can recommend the Diablos as I had them on last, they were, however, expensive and didnt last long.
Which Battlax? I had BT21 or 23 on mine (can't remember which), they were a sports touring tyre. And although they did the miles I did not have confidence in them and I got some BT16s instead. Not really tried them properly yet.
I have the BT 023 on my Honda NC700 - i have ridden it from 4,000-12,500 miles - not been that confident in them during that time, but someone else had the best 4,000 miles out of them. Replacing them for Pilot Road 2's as they are about bald now. The Diablo was my preference, but it does not come in 170/60. I really wanted to keep that stock...
Just noticed the newly powdercoated wheels at the top look like they have powdercoat in the cush drive rubber holes. Youll not get new rubbers in, it'll need removed
In the end I stuck a Diablo Rosso II on the back (wanted to keep to a 170) and a Diablo Rosso Corsa II on the front. They are great, as well as some road miles, they've done a very warm trackday at Pembrey and a cold and dampish one at Snetterton. Highly recommend them. Oh, and while I'm recommending stuff, I put a set of Brembo SA red pads on the front. Lovely
