1200 DVT 2016 Multistrada S Value

  1. Hi All
I have a chance to buy the above with 36000 miles. I know it’s quite high mileage but it’s had a recent desmo service at a main dealer and appears to be in very good condition. It’s had 2 owners including the dealership.
It has a full termignoni with upmap and a Ducati top box colour matched to the panniers.
I don’t usually shy away from bikes that have been used and actually prefer them to garage toys. Over 40 years riding I’ve generally found them to have fewer problems.
However, I’m not experienced with the brand so seeking the help of you all.
What should I look out for especially with the mileage? I presume it will be chain/sprockets but also head bearings to mention just a few things.
He wants about £8500 but I think there might be some wiggle room.
    Cheers

  2. 2 years ago - my insurance paid out £12,000 for a 2017 1200S with 7500 miles

So that seems steep to me..

  3. I'd buy but would want it cheap. The seller had had their money's worth. Also, it is not just about when the last desmo service was done. Have they ben done regularly?

  4. It has a full main dealer service history with the first desmo at 18000 and annual oil/filter servicing.
I was going to bid him £8k subject to anything I’m warned about on here.
Any thoughts on what I should look for?
    Cheers

  5. I paid not a lot more than that for a 2015 with 5k on it just before riding season started this year, and that had just had the belt service also (time based).

    Seems high priced to me.

Have to echo the statement about garage queens - would check closer in future, this bike had been washed more than ridden, and that brings its own problems. It’s lovely now mind :D

  6. This was registered September 16 so what price do you think is right?

  7. Everyone is different and you will pay what you think it is worth ultimately, if you love it you will forget the odd £100 or two here and there.

All my opinion and you know what they say about those....but....if the condition is otherwise good, and you can get it for £7.5k that would be a good price for the age and the mileage - and you have the bonus of the zorst (afterwards = v expensive and used can be a ballache). Luggage shouldnt make all that much difference to price on an S.

There are a few out there - do have a look around. Private seller will make a difference also. You can get similar on AT now for £8k without termis, so I wouldn’t feel robbed at that price either.

Good luck and have fun bike shopping - :upyeah:

  8. Thanks for the reply.
After some negotiation he has dropped to £7750.
I think that’s acceptable as it’s also 11 months mot.
The only thing that seems to be missing is the trim under the riders seat. It’s set on low so not bad. Are they easy to get hold of?
    Cheers

  9. The trims are only used when the seat is in the raised position, so should likely be with the bike anyway (mine were) but yeah. Doocatty do sell 'em as well :)

    • Agree Agree x 1
  10. the trim is only a couple of quid so dont let that hold you back

  11. The pillion trim is used in the low seat position and the other trim (more substantial) is used in the high position (when you remove the pillion one). Not a horrible costs from Ducati if he doesn’t have them

  12. I have a set of the main seat side trims in garage.

Will have to look - but think there was just 2 pieces?

    never been on the bike.

  13. That's really helpful Simon.
Does anyone know a part number? If not I'll check with the main stealer.
Anyhow I've bought the bike now.
I'm considering engine bars. Always had them on the GS. Are the Ducati ones any good?
    Cheers
