1198 2nd Gear Misfire/stutter.

  1. Hoping someone can shed some light on this. Went for a decent ride in the morning & bike was running beautifully, got home & parked up in garage & gave her my usual wipe down. Went back out for a short blat in the arvo & found was misfiring/ stuttering under light to medium acceleration with partial throttle. I could determine this was in 2nd gear as 1st,3rd & 4th were perfect.
Bike is fitted with a 'Ducati performance' quick shifter.
I have check all wiring connections & have now completely disconnected the quick shifter but have not had a chance to test ride (maybe this evening).

  2. Further to above, its not the quicker shifter. With quick shifter out off the equation it still stutters but 2nd gear only.
    ?????

  3. Is it an engine mis-fire or a stutter in the drive ? My 1198 used to do it in third gear now and again.

  4. Could well be as I think I have done all I can to resolve, new plugs, Air filter, oil change & filter, checked every connection, fuse, sidestand switch, injector connections & fuel line.
Ran a fresh tank of fuel (98 octane) through her while keeping in 3rd around 6000rpm until I was on reserve. Bike came good for awhile with no issue in 2nd in fact run beautiful, refilled & then had to take it easy (ie slower speeds) within a short time issue came back.
Have now dropped onto the dealers lap to sort out.
Feeling a little Ducatied out at the moment as gave up a great L3 Gixxer for this

  5. Have you taken it to a Ducati main dealer and have you got the full service history ?
If it ends up like mine you will be needing it.
I think you are looking at another DQS disaster !
    Good luck with the repair.

  6. As I bought bike 2nd hand 2 weeks ago, have taken to place of purchase as sold with 3 months statutory warranty, does have a reasonable service history & spoke to a independent Ducati specialist, who did the last major service, prior to purchasing.

  7. Well looks like Kev moose was on the money, bent selector fork & suspected stuffed gearbox, engine will be removed tomorrow & cases split, parts ordered & rebuild. Fortunately for me all costs are been worn by the motorcycle dealer I purchased from.
