899 3rd Year Warranty

  1. Evening people

My very first post on a Ducati forum and have to say I'm a tad excited as my SV1000S is about to be joined by a brand spanking new 899.

I'm picking it up on Saturday 14th and have just been asked by the Dealer whether I want the 3rd year Manufacturer warranty which apparently I need to buy prior to collecting the bike.

I'm just interested in people's views. It's £299 + VAT which is neither here nor there in the grand scheme of things but I'd still rather have it in my pocket than not..

I probably will keep the bike 3 years but as it's not only the first Ducati, it's the first bike I've bought brand new I thought I would ask the question.

Manufacturer warranty now? Aftermarket warranty after 2 years? Not bother?

    Any thoughts much appreciated.

    Andy

  2. Well touch wood so far have not had anything go wrong in 3rd year of ownership that would have been covered by warranty.
    I've had several Duc's
    Welcome mate.

  3. buy the warranty!!!!!!! best money I've ever spent

  4. Buy it, my rear shock failed in year 3, got it replaced under warranty,

  5. I understood you used to be able to buy the extended warranty at the 23rd month however, I was told at the London show ducati stand this was no longer the case.....?

  6. Thanks for the replies.

I think I'll just do it and take the peace of mind.

  7. I think you will find the extended warranty offer is currently unavailable due to a legal issue (selling insurance) and when they re-introduce a scheme later it will only be available when you buy the bike and not any date after that so any current bikes will not be able to get it

  8. I would take the opportunity to try and get the 3rd year thrown in for free as part of the deal when you buy the bike new.

  9. As above I don't think they can apply it now anyway

  10. Just in process of trying to extend my warranty, apparently its a decision of Audi to stop extending warranties.
You have to contact Ducati direct, and they will look at you as a individual case as to whether they will let you extend or not.
Surely the sensible thing would be to have honoured the warranty extension for bikes under 23 months old, but for new ones from March you would have to extend when buying your bike if you wished.
Perhaps that's too easy, wont be buying another Audi now. lol.

  11. I went for the third year warranty just for the peace of mind really.

  12. Hi All - This is my first post :)

I'm picking up my 1299 on Saturday and my dealer is telling me that he can't even sell me the extended warranty due to some legal issues with Ducati UK. As the bike is on finance for 3 years, I would ideally like to take the extended warranty and am now concerned that at month 24, I'll be left in the dark without the possibility of extending...

Mach - Would you mind revealing which dealer you are buying from so that I can pass on their details to Hyside in Essex ?

    Thanks

  13. Pm will be better in this instance!:upyeah:

  14. Why does it need to be a secret?

  15. He would have purchased the 3rd year warranty befor Ducati pulled the plug on it,i have it on good authority it wont be long before they release a new 3rd year option.

  16. Prey share - "good authority", you must be the famous mole on the inside.

  17. Not a mole, just asked a question to someone who should know, reply was"i have some paperwork on my desk about the new warranty" ,so i dug a bit further like a mole, but he had not read it yet.

  18. Well, let's hope something comes of it - I won't be holding my breath though :(

  19. Warrany scheme is closed afaik, suspect something will appear between now and when your bike is 2 yrs old if you have just bought it :upyeah:

  20. I was told to get extra year warranty you need to take it out when buying bike from new now.
However existing customers whose bike is under 23 months old need to apply to Ducati Italy via their dealer to
get approval for the extra years cover, its a Audi thing this and apparently does not apply to the States.
