As the title might suggest, I'm thinking of changing my 999s Mono Nero. I can't justify (or really want, I know, weird) two bikes, but fancy a change. Although I haven't ridden anything else, Panigale, Monster 1200s or R or a KTM Superduke keep coming up. I've ridden nothing else apart from a borrowed Monster 900 for 2 years when I first passed my test. Question is, will I regret it? Should I hold onto it and fling some money at the suspension and a little tidying up? I'm not really worried about residuals as I think that's a lot of bollox for an argument about something that's not rational in the first place. What will I enjoy more? Need something that makes me smile when I open the garage and laugh when I crack the throttle. Do the new bikes feel special? Feel free to share, whatever you think. G
my neighbor has just sold his disaster of a multistrada bought a ktm and gixxer instead. the ktm in particular seems to give him the giggles
I'd keep it mate, tune engine and up grade suspension make a project out of it. Evolution rather than revolution.
Personally I'd keep the nero and spend some pennies making it make me smile again. I see one is on the bay of evil. Failing that I would take the ktm route.
Just hang onto it and buy something else and the itch goes away. SIMPLES! Works for me every time and the best bit is that after a few years you've got loadsa bikes Never itch again.
Agree with hughdg. I'm testament to that.... 4 bikes(it really should be 3 but no one will buy my supermoto for the money I want so it stays).... However.... Forgetting about residuals... The way it would normally go for me would be... Roll into local bike shop..... See bike I liked.... Say I have a supermoto.... I see a gsxr think.... I need that in my life... Sell mine for fuck all and take a out loan to bridge it. Rinse and repeat a year or two later... Having a few bikes means that I ride one for a bit then it's nice to ride the other, moreso with my rsv4 which I hardly use... Owned it getting on for 6 years and cos I ride it infrequently every time I do ride it, it feels like I bought it last month. I've had a couple of go's and can't wait to have another go.... No plans to sell it... Plus, if I look at another bike let's say I look at an r1 then I tend to think "I've already got my rsv4 so there's no point...." Its lad logic but it works...
Test rides, test rides, test rides. Lots of them and ride the same bikes several times if possible. You'll soon find out whether you're keeping the 999 or whether its time to move on. No deciding without riding.
There's a scientific formula to calculate the number of bikes you need. Bikes needed = (n + 1) where "n" is your current number of bikes...

sell it for fucks sake.. ( to me, nice and cheap and in the new year when I may have some money) I miss my 749 nero. Life and my workshop are just not the same anymore...
maybe you need an 848? maybe the evo se model? maybe you have several spare grands and a 999 to trade and purchase one?
No, but let's just say, he should now his onions... Not really bothered about value. If I do 2 - 4 k a year, in a couple of years it's up at 20k and most will think it's worthless anyway..... Say I got 6 or 7k for it just now, I'd have another 6k to play with. The problem with the KTM is well, it's not the most beautiful looking thing. ( I know, I know, pot/kettle/black) Some bits of the Monster R are for me quite beautiful and other bits eh...not.
Decisions, decisions.............. I had a dark 848 Evo I traded it in for an 899 in 2013 I regretted it 6 months later, further 6 months went by and I traded that in for the 1199s, a lovely bike but I missed the trellis frame. I say keep it and go treat yourself to a second bike I have just got rid of my 1199s for an 1198 and I couldn't be happier,
