1200 50,000 Miles And More

Discussion in 'Multistrada' started by Longwayhome, Sep 8, 2015.

  1. We are now approaching my Multi's 5th birthday and I've lost count of the tours but I did notice the 50k miles pop up and stopped for the picture. We were in Bavaria at the time on the way to Mugello.
We leave for Misano tomorrow so we'll be well over 55,000 by the time we get home again. She's still the best bike in the world. 20150525_151129.jpg

  2. Youve probably been asked this a million times but have you had any major problems with her ? Nice to see a duc with this many miles!

  3. She had a new head gasket fitted under warranty at 15,000 miles and 18 month old after she started steaming from the exhaust after starting from cold. Hardly major but that's it. Still makes me grin like a chimp every time I throw a leg over.

  4. Mine is past 5 years and just a smidge over half that mileage - must.get.out.more!!

I'm planning to have this one at least 9-10 years, so nice to know that kind of mileage doesn't mean instant destruction.

  5. Thats good to see how you feel after 55K miles'
    a) knowing its running well
    B) you still like to use it.
I am aiming to keep mine quite a long time, so thats helped my mind know they can last that long and do that many miles.

  6. do you go fast on it ? do you change oil and filter yourself? what would you say you do to keep it reliable?
ive only had mine 6 months but up to 6k already worried about the oil, what with another 1.5 k until service ?

  7. Bought the new DVT one to do exactly the same! Hoping it's as reliable as yours has been :)

  8. Congratulations!
FYI (don't want to worry you) but the steaming from the exhaust when cold was diagnosed as new cylinder heads on mine.

  9. That was 35000 miles ago? ;)

  10. Surely must have been a new cylinder head, not just a new gasket. Very well documented problem which affected a great number of bikes (including mine).

  11. My mts clocked 32 ish K this week. Lots of issues over the 5 years, cant seem to shake it off and buy another though...keep riding it every day, its addictive and amazing and its never really broken down when its running, but things crop up and need sorting like servicing, some odd thing failing or needing replacing etc...is that called reliable therefore or madness ?

  12. I have had the same thoughts, mine is up to 13,000 now and 18 months old, I changed the oil myself at 4,000 miles and 11,000 miles as well as the dealer servicing at 600, 7,500 miles.

I am thinking that it can't hurt, costs little and might give me some piece of mind (even if it doesn't make any difference)

  13. Well done longwayhome!

June 2010 here and also less than half that mileage. I now plan to keep it longer as it's in great condition and makes me smile every ride. All the little tweaks make it suit me perfectly.

  14. 50,000 miles and not much wrong? You must have got a Friday afternoon one :(

  16. I think I got the following Friday's machineā€¦

  17. Congratz, onward to 100K

  18. That makes me feel better as mine has 32k on it now (2013 S Touring)

  19. Had mine less than a month, 1000 miles in so far so see you at 50K in 4 years or so, maybe earlier (bought with 5000 miles on clock 2 years old) :upyeah:

  20. Had my 2010 since March. Clock mileage kindly reset itself on the ride home from the dealer so I know I've done 5k miles on it since then. It was off the road for a full engine rebuild for a month just after I got it (cam arm snapped and bashed up most of the engine). Hopefully that's the last of my issues for another 80k miles [emoji51]
