My bike has the 53mm Termi system that I fear would not pass a UK track noise limit test. Questions: a) anyone know the truth b) anyone have another solution that won’t require a whole new exhaust etc. Cheers to the brains trust
I've had my 996 sps on track with alloy termis mate and never had a problem, had it noise tested at 100db. My 748/853sps was the same never had a problem with it either. If your that worried get some baffles made up.
100db eh. Perhaps it depends on the track and the local limit. I just noticed some operators/tracks enforce, if I remember correctly, 95db. I just don’t want to finish this build project (finally) get a day pass (rare as rocking horse poo), pay for a ride, travel hours to get there. Then get denied before I even swing a leg over because the bike sounds too awesome.
All the tracks I do are 98db or 103 on loud days Get some baffles made up and just take them with you, if you do get pulled in for noise just stick um in.
I too had a 50mm full system on my 916SPS. I used it many times on UK tracks without baffles. As a back up, just in case, I bought some universal baffles off eBay that could be used if it happened to fail the noise test. I believe I only needed them once for a quiet day - can’t remember the noise limit though.
Just had to check. Seems I have a 53mm termi system. If that makes any difference. It does suggest the stock 998 pipes will not fit. I might experiment with a short or angled 48mm universal baffle, that doesn't require drilling the tip for a retention screw.
The box that my 50mm termis were supplied in had 102db written on it, no idea if that's an official rating or just someone's notes? But, presumably that is the maximum noise, do they check all through the rev range or just casually hold a db meter somewhere near the bike running in the midrange?
Someone can correct me. But I think that they do one or both of: a) static test - bike stationary, SPL meter behind, bike revved to 3-5k b) fly by - SPL meter on the pit wall, checking bikes as they bomb down the straight. Black flag anyone over
Depends on number of cylinders and cc for revs, hold clutch in on dry clutch, it all helps Not all have fly-by
Cadwell is a 7 hour round trip. Turns my day pass into 2 (or 3) - don't think I have that level of begging in me.
The important diameter for universal baffles is the silencer outlet. That may not be 50 or 53mm. I drilled mine otherwise there is risk that the baffle will fall out.
