600ss Cam Belt Covers - Need For Lubrication?

Discussion in 'Supersport (1974-2007)' started by AFPU, Apr 18, 2015.

  1. Hi

Spring clean time and I am repainting the cam belt covers. My question is before refitting them should I give the pulleys etc a spray of lubricant or leave well alone?

The Haynes manual makes no mention of the need for lubrication, so I am assuming not but thought I might double check with you guys.

    Regards

  2. Do not lube.

  3. Thanks for that. Just seems a little odd not to lube the guides & pulleys, but I won't.

Is the worry that it will affect the belt life?

  4. The last thing you want on the belts is oil.

  5. There should be scream of "hold on, I'm coming in dry". Oil on the belts will reduce there life span, you don't want a belt snapping.

  6. Unicorn fat is what you need! :upyeah:

  7. Lard and dripping up north.
