Those of you who know these bikes are I'm sure are all thinking the same thing, Alloy plug in Crank pin has unscrewed itself.... Heres the story. The bike was bought last year as one that needed some tlc from standing for a number of years.. All the common stuff was wrong, rusty tank, carbs needing attention, electrics all a bit fuzzy etc etc.. I got most all sorted before trying to start the bike, which it did earlier this year. Well, I then thought I had a good base to work on, as the engine sounded fairly sweet with relatively little mechanical noise and no nasty knocks or smoke.. The bike has languished in the garage all this time, and I have been attending to other problems and trying to get it sorted so I could have a bit of fun this summer, (when it arrives..). Anyway, when the battery was installed for the final time and the ignition swithed on, all looked good, and I kept the kill switch off just to throw some oil up round the engine so I let it turn over for 20-30 seconds... Oil light wont go off!! Check levels and even pulled the switch to see if there was any oil and nothing!! Engine rhs Side casing off and checked Oil Pump.. Everything fine.. Pulled the sludge filter and the telltale alloy filings were found Not many but enough to start worrying.. One thing though.. I thought that if the plug had come adrift, there would be no resistance to any air going into the oilway in the crankshaft... I got a piece of plastic tube that fitted the ID of the crank, pushed it into the crank and blew into it. No problem blowing into it and a goos movement of air though it... Not good... Can someone let me know their thought about this... and possibly a good supplier for gasket set and advice of the correct plug to fit... Thanks.. BTW. The oil ight was going out when the bike was going a few months ago, and when the engine was stopped with the kill switch, it was coming on again, but probably a little quicker than I would have liked.. Picture added... Any advice welcome..
