600SS tyre choices

  1. Like a lot of older bikes that have little recent use, when I bought my 1996 600SS in June it came with pair of mis-matched old obselete tyres and after 1000 miles of use since I bought it the back one now needs replacing.

I've decided to bite the bullet and replace both with a pair of decent tyres, after a bit of research I am leaning towards Pirelli Diablo's, just wondering if anyone else has a recommendation for what works well on these bikes?

  2. The Dunlop's the DD racer guys seems really good, cant remember which ones but sure a few may even have scrubs for £50

  3. Looks like they use a GP Racer D209, basically a track day but road legal tyre. About £160 a pair, I do very little wet weather riding so definitely worth considering.

  4. Mate they race in the wet on them too (contentious point ;-) ) but they cope ok until its a stream

  5. I wonder if anyone has a pair of unused GP racers in the sat in the garage doing nowt??????:upyeah:

  6. I wonder if anyone has a pair of unused Dunlop D209 H-Rated Qualifiers, 120/70/17 front & 160/60/17 rear sat in the garage doing nowt??????:upyeah:

  7. How much do you want for them?

Problem is I'm in Oxford so by the time they are couriered here and I've paid to have them fitted probably not viable.

Just had a quote for a pair of Diablo's fitted (by a proper old school bike shop) £190 all in

  8. £130 inc delivery..........................

  9. How old are they?

  10. Bought October 2012, stored in dark garage since then under covers.

  11. Just like tweety bird, going cheap ;-)

  12. Important to note H rated. Avoid Z rated on a 600
