Clutch bite point is just about at the end of the lever travel, even on number 4 of the standard lever. Is this a common thing? Any recommendations for adjustable levers that will bring the lever closer to the bars? Thanks
How many miles had the bike covered? From memory the 696 is a hydraulic clutch, yes? Have you checked your clutch pack recently? I know it’s not as easy to do with a wet clutch. Whilst wet clutches tend to last longer than dry ones before needing replacing it’s not unheard of for the friction plates to have worn down. Friction plates start at 3mm, min recommended thickness is 2.6mm. iirc, there are 11 friction plates in the pack, if they’ve all worn down to the min or below that’s 4.4mm off the overall stack height. 4.4mm is a lot when it comes to stack height tolerance ranges. You may be on the cusp of having a slipping clutch.
Mine had quite a high bite point as well, not as high as you describe and it would suggest your pack is wearing thin. Mine has only done 10000 so I didn't think that's the case. I made a shorter plunger as I had the same problem with not being able to get to where I wanted to be with the standard span adjuster.
