It didn’t matter what gear I was in, but as soon as I hit 7000 RPM, the bike would start to sputter. There was no error message on the dash and no EOBD indication. However, on two separate occasions while testing, MelcoDiag captured a P0001 error code (Fuel Volume Regulator Control Circuit Open). Although possible, I didn’t believe it was a fuel pump issue as it was replaced not long ago. Nevertheless, I checked the wiring to the pump and then moved on, checking the ignition coils, the plugs and plug wiring, upper injectors, etc. I found nothing, buttoned everything back up and started the bike. I left the shop for a moment and when I came back in, gas was dripping from the airbox drip tube and pooling on the floor. If it had to happen, better in the shop than on the road where it could spray back onto a hot exhaust. The cause… the “O” ring on the quick release coupler failed. It’s an item worth checking (and replacing, if necessary) whenever you remove the tank.
