How do you mount yours? Through my own incompetence I've acquired a bit of a collection of track body work for my latest build. I'd really like to mount my seat unit 'race bike' style using Dzus fasteners, rather than the key and cable gubbins. (I have a bracket which I hope with mods will allow this). But, how do you chaps mount yours? I know the racing bikes of that era used a very nice CF domed part, but I don't have one! Any advice or especially pics would really help! Also out of the two seat units I have I'd really like to use the one with number boards, sadly this one has the cut outs for the rear light! Any clever suggestions fro neatly blanking this off? (Other than a light) Do I recall someone making some blanks for the front and rear lights for track days? Ta
You can certainly hold the rear of the seat on with a single dzus fastener and that was quite easy to make up something which I used for a while until I had a full custom rear subframe made in alloy. The front is held in the conventional manner but I use alloy seat pins as they are stronger and don't suffer from hardening over time. I originally made and sold a few of the front blanking plates for fairings with the light holes still in them. Below is a photo of the blanking plate. I don't have any left now and will not be making any more for several months due to other work. I now have several race seats for my track bike bike but originally I was going to cast a rear light lens in fibreglass and then use that in place of rear light unit for a road bike seat for the track. The easiest thing, I would imagine, is to simply fill in the rear light holes if you don't want to return the seat back to road use. Fibreglass would be easy enough for that. If you want a photo of my effort for a dzus fastening rear seat mounting I can try and find it and put a photo up.
