748 biposto to mono

  1. Having just got my 748 i would like to replace the twin seat for a mono seat unit, could someone please advise me on what i need to do the job. Are the rider seats the same?
    thanks Glenn

  2. You need a mono seat unit and a mono seat (although you can use the bip one, its just lower at the back) and that's it.
You can swap over the light unit and lock from the bip too.
10 mins to swap it all over...

  3. .... but you will need some spacers (I used 13mm OD 6.5mm ID x28mm 2 Off) some longer bolts (for the spaced out lock striker plate) and some foam pads for the other seat unit. All stuff available on eBay and in the dealers, noting that the dealers prices are often better than eBay

  4. does the bip seat look ok on the mono seat unit?

  5. Not tried that but the differences between the riders seat pads can be seen below:

  6. I have done this conversion several times and funnily the Mono seat on a Bip can look better. I have a genuine mono 748SPS and it's surprising how high the seat is at the back, it sits way above the Termis and it's all genuine and standard.

Getting the spacers right makes all the difference to how the seat sits on the Bip subframe. Have you got a genuine Mono seat or a copy of some sort? I have about 5 mono seats of various sorts 4 of them are either Avio Fibre or Carbon or Carbon\Kevlar as they are meant to be race seats originally, so different way of fitting them entirely. On these seats I have had to put in threaded spacers so that they take the Mono seat plate which really is required to stop the seat rocking about on the Bip subframe. The foam pads help stop this as well.

The back plate is cheap but the front seat hinge plate is silly money for a bit of U shaped metal over £10 plus VAT.

  7. Hi Red998 i dont have a mono seat unit as yet, i am looking for one at the moment. thanks to all who have replied with advise i would like to get all the bits together so i have the option to swap from mono to biposto in seconds.:upyeah:

  8. I have done that, it will be expensive though, eBay is your best bet but sometimes their asking prices are more than new especially the US eBayers who sell over here. Let me know if you need details, I could probably send you some photos to illustrate if you need them.

  9. Try Superbike Bodywork for a decent aftermarket mono seat unit. I have one on my 748, it fits perfectly using your original bip brackets and the gel coat colour match was excellent (although mine has now been repainted due to crash damage). Looks silly to me without a mono riders seat though.
