Hi all I have a 1995 748 that has been off the road for 4 years, I have managed to get it running ok but a niggling problem arose every now and then you can turn on the ignition and it all lights up but when you press the starter button it is dead. I found if you touch the large 19 pin screw socket under the tank it fires up ok, I have had the socket apart a dozen times checked and cleaned all the pins but every now and then it seems to lose connection to the starter button, I have tried a new starter switch but still the same problem. Anybody out there had the same problem with the 19 pin socket stopping the starter button working or any ideas what the problem might be.
sounds like the tiny connector that goes onto the starter solenoid. People often run a tiewrap around the whole solenoid as it's prone to coming loose but can also develop intermittent contact from light corrosion.
Thanks for the quick reply will hotfoot it down the garage straight away and have a look, that's the good thing about being retired plenty of time to play. Thanks again Dave Jose.
This is the most frequent offender Dave but there are many other culprits which me or others can add to the thread if above isn't the cause.
Dave, does the fuel pump energize when you turn the ignition on or perhaps does it do it when you move the round connector under the tank?
