No disrespect, but I think your missus has had a lucky escape. Having owned a 748 and thinking back to when I was a learner and then to my first bike - 748 as a first bike would be a nightmare. You want an easy, forgiving, comfortable bike when you've just passed your test. IMO a 748 does not meet any of these requirements.
