748 748 Mirror Blanks

Discussion in '748 / 916 / 996 / 998' started by chizel, Jul 15, 2014.

  1. Hi all, ave asked this question before but am still on the hunt after scouring the web forever... Need some mirror blanks. I know someone used to make em (don't know who) and they can be got for other models but cant find em for the 748. Any help out there? smart arse comments welcome for sure but help needed!

  2. I think r&g used to, but like you have drawn a blank, excuse the pun, as was looking for some to fit my 996

  3. Look up car-parts-market on ebay.
They seem to sell blank mirror glass for 748's. Haven't bought any myself so can't vouch for them though.

  4. yeah that's the ones I was thinking of, but not anymore apparently. must be someone surely..

  5. Do you mean mirror glasses or blanks to block off the holes in the fairing? If you mean the latter then a German company on ebay used to sell them but they were about £40 plus, they were billet alloy. They were not a big seller due to price.

If you mean mirror glasses (lens) then you can get these made by a local glass stockist, I had several sets made up at one point for about £5 per set.

  6. Tie wraps?

  7. Just to add to the above I found this, which I had forgotten about. This is one person's answer from an American Ducati website. Looks quite viable and I reckon it could be improved upon.

I wanted more of a rounded look to go with the curves of the 748 so I searched around for a while...and guess where I found what I needed? Wendy's! Yep, the fast food joint. Lol

Wendy's plastic spoon was the right size and it was deep enough where I could use a short screw/washer/nut combo under neath. Cut off the handle and use sand paper to get it to the shape you want. The tricky part was heating it up using a lighter to form it to fit the contour of the fairing. Once you get the shape you want, it's a simple spray job using a rattle can.

I picked up some short screws, couple washers, and matching nuts and used that to secure the top of the fairing to the brackets, then a dap of silicone caulking to secure the blanking plate over the holes left behind from the mirrors.

I think I can use dentle floss to cut through the silicone when I need to remove the front fairing so I'm not too worry about it.

Anyways, not the most high tech and exotic, but it serves the purpose and in my eyes it goes well with the curves of the 748.

  8. Plastic number plate screws.

Colour coded too if you have a yellow bike...

  9. @Red998
Did you ever start making the Corse heel guards?

    Soz - hijack!

  10. Yes, I started making them and someone on eBay then started selling sets for £15 in Carbon so I held back to see if they continued to be offered, I am guessing they were being sold at a loss as I couldn't even sell\compete with them for that sort of price due to the cost of materials. I am hoping to take another look at them when I finish another project which I am doing at the moment an RGV 250 track bike.
