Hi all, firstly I am new so be kind ! i purchased in the Sumer a 748 which was in need of work , mainly it nearly fell off the side stand due to the bracket fracturing a breaking. looking through various forums this is a common issue usually occurring when posing sitting on the bike at local bike meets (joke) i dont really want to put a replacement bracket on from a breaker if I can help it as not sure what state these could be in so 1- is there an aftermarket replacement that works 2- is there a bracket that can be purchased used on another ducati or another marque that is more sturdy 3- any other solution i have looked at it and think maybe some kind of milled bracket would be ideal and a lot stronger but don't want to re-invent the wheel (or should that be stand) any my advise is very welcome!
Hello. My 996 recently was found looking very sorry for itself on the garage floor after my side stand bracket snapped. It's not cheap but I bought a new bracket and a 1098 stand and my bike sits at a normal angle now. Don't risk a second hand bracket as it won't work out cheaper if it breaks! It was about £200 and you use your existing springs and bolts. I ordered from pro twins in Surrey.. Very helpful chaps. Don't forget to use lock thread on the bracket bolts! Hope this helps, Dan.
What's the difference between the 996 and 1098 stand then, just the length? My 748 worries me because I swear it leans over at a funny angle! I'm not sure if it's supposed to be like that (my Hypermotard is more upright) as I really can't remember and it lives on a paddock stand most of the time when stored.
I think the foot on the 1098 stand is a tad longer or wider. I used a new 996 bracket and I couldn't believe the difference it made to the lean angle on the side stand. It's now pretty much the same angle on a stand as my brothers fireblade.
Thanks guys - I might look into that for mine then. My mate bought a 750SSie for a song and it too seemed to lean over a bit too far. We fitted a (old) MultiStrada stand to it and it now sits really nicely on the stand. Maybe Ducatis just lean over a little bit further and we're all paranoid!!!
The 848/1098 side stand and bracket bolts straight on to the 747/916 block and make the bike sit loads better! IIRC the stands are the same length, just the 848/1098 one is a little straighter.
