748 sidestand sits very far foreward

  1. Hi my 748 sidestand sits very far forward and makes the bile lean is there a way to adjust this ?
    Cheers Keith

  2. I use a flat piece of wood when it's in the shed, which stops the rather scary angle of dangle - in five years it hasn't fallen over....

  3. Lean angle seems pretty normal, I keep mine on paddock stands in the workshop.....

  4. Check the two large bolts holding the bracket onto the engine, also check bracket for cracks.

  5. agree - does seem to be leaning more than std. It could just be worn and or pivot worn/loose. As above plus have a look at the forward face of the sidestand arm where it abutts the stop - is it gouged possibly quite deeply and producing burrs? Many ways to fix but this is an often visited 'chestnut' so will leave it there for now.

  6. I have three Ducati's and they all lean at totally different angles on their sidestands, the worst is my 998 which looks like yours in the picture. It has never fallen over but the angle of lean is quite acute. I have often wondered if altering the ride height would help as it has the highest of the three, never bothered to experiment though and I am not sure how it could affect things that much.

    Just a passing thought.

  7. It's not just the lean on the above pic, it's how far forward the stand is traveling.
The only time I've seen that on one of my bikes was when one of the fixing bolts had shaken out!

  8. As Nelson said, above, check the bracket bolts - mine had worked itself to a strange lean angle, only to find the bolts weren't all the way home.

stripped the stand off, cleaned it all up, greased up, back together and all nicely tightened up - sits up a lot better now.

used to always have a 2" square piece of 1/2" planed wood in my pocket for parking up, no need anymore.

  9. get a 1098 sidestand - bolts straight on and is longer with bigger footprint

  10. didn't reply clearly as I haven't even started on bike leaning angle - I was only commenting on actual sidestand 'lean'. I understand that sidestand lean can be caused by loose or partially stripped sidestand bracket bolts allowing assembly to twist etc (tapped and helicoiled many) but find it's more often the actual stand butting face wearing or the pivot hole and/or pivot bolt.

  11. That's wot I have... Also less bananey (is that a word?) .

  12. not sure on that one - how about bananaesque

  13. Cheers for the reply's I will have a look on Sunday and see if I can figure this out.

  14. if you don't feel flash enough to splash on 1098/1198 (but is a good straightforward fit/mod) then you could explore the Mito route - fitted one to my first 748 for similar reasons to above but needs fettling to fit and could take you to other extreme - i.e. - too upright

  15. Went down the 1098 stand route thanks for the advice hope this makes a difference

  16. Good thread this. My 996 is leaning over loads too, nearly 45 degrees in comparison to my R1. If i stick a 1inch block of wood under the stand it seems to lean more "normal". I`ll have a look at the bracket tonight, and if not, get one of those 1098/1198 stands. Good tip there! Cheers.

  17. Should get my stand for Friday will fit it and report back. Some excellent advice many thanks keith

  18. Hope it works but don't forget if back end is up much higher than standard because of weight/height of rider then bike will lean a lot more even if sidestand is ok.

  19. Is there anywhere who sells the newer side stands cheap? Looking on the old auction sites they dont seem as cheap as me just carrying a bit of wood in my pocket.

  20. Right, 1098 stand arrived went to remove old stand front bolt bent but came out rear bolt head mangled any idea how to get the bolt out ?
    hammer and screwdriver ?
