A lot of bikes are different when it comes to actual spanner/socket sizes. M8's can have a 12mm socket size There is no standard when it comes to socket sizes for a paticular thread size. That's why I tend to use more 9mm,11mm,14mm ect tools on bikes, than anything else, cars or machines. I think bikes are smaller for weight-loss gain, cost and accessability for tools when the bike is being assembled or for maint.
