748 748 Sps Resurrection

  1. Hi :)

About 10 Years ago a I bought a 1998 748 SPS, that at that time had not been used for 5 years.. I ran it around the block and then parked it at the back of the garage where it's stood since..

Over some beers with a mate last week we decided that it's time to get it back on get it on the road.. This is supposed to be happening this weekend.

    Idea is:

Service engine - new belts and fluids.
    New battery
    Brake fluid
Fork oil (Forget the shock for now as I don't have the tools)
    Tyres

    Questions:
Am I missing a ton of things that should be checked/fixed before I even think about using it?
Will I need any special tools? I'm set up with a good set of tools but nothing Ducati specific.

Depending on what I find here I might postpone this until I planned it better..

    Thanks,
    Fred

  3. Not 100% necessary - Crank turning tool or make one yourself.

  4. I just use a bolt with a tightened nut and then a socket wrench.

  5. Or put the bike in 6th and turn the rear wheel.

  6. Some bikes (900ss) need the rear wheel, shock and exhaust off to access the vertical exhaust valve shims. That’s when I realized I had to find a way to turn the crank even with no rear wheel on.

  7. Makes me think I need more then a weekend,a mate and a crate of beer.. o_O I might have to leave this another season and get a bit more organized, I mean the fork seals are going to need doing for sure, checking valve adjustments.. and I'm sure I'll find a hundred other things that needs fixing..
