So the start switch did nothing today but I can start the bike fine if I bridge the starter solenoid. All fuses are ok. Is that a fault with the starter motor or somewhere else?
I’ve had this twice recently with my newly acquired 748, in my case it was poor connection on the white 2 pin plug that goes to the solinoid. The pins were loose in the plug, I ended up removing plug and soldering wires permanently. Im new too these so could well be something else, but that’s given me hassle on mine recently with the same symptoms so worth a look.
oh wait, I think I know which connectors you mean, I did check that they were connected ok, but ill give them a better look tomorrow and get some contact cleaner on them.
That plug can be a pain. A small cable tie can be useful to keep it in place. I did this fix for a guy in Kirkmichael on the IOM one day, much to the relief of his mate who was getting tired with pushing him to bump it every start.
I think you answered your own question. When you bridge the starter solenoid and the bike starts you eliminate everything from there forward. So your battery and high power cables, connectors etc are fine. Your problem is before the solenoid, low power cables, starter button or the solenoid itself.
Are you getting battery voltage at the solenoid-coil connector when you press the start button? Yes = it's the solenoid. No = further digging required...
Just clean the starter switch, make sure the white connector is properly making contact at the solenoid. If that doesn’t work replace the solenoid and you should be up and running in no time
