Need a new set for the 748, Was thinking about Bridgestone bt016 pro has anyone used these or could recommend what they found with other tyres on a 748, Bike is used for road only no track.
I have Metzeler M7rr on my 748, previously had Rosso corsa, very happy with the Metzeler, road use and spirited riding only. Steve
2nd M7RR rear just gone on. ~3250 miles down to wear bars. Warm up quicker than Dunlop Sport Smarts and feel better on cooler days or when wet.
Read the latest Performance Bikes mag tyre test. The Metzeler M7RR is easily the best road option according to them.
Isn't it weird how they only ever review the 4 or 5 most recently released tyres? Stuff like the Pilot Road 2CT and the Battlax BT016 Pro didn't suddenly become rubbish tyres. I've got a pair of Supercorsas on the HP4 and they are for my use case no better or worse than the S21Rs on the 999s... Magazine reviews are just a datapoint. Edit: not saying the M7RRs are not great BTW, just that magazines are sometimes partisan and only one signal of many.
If tyres didn't improve over time then tyre companies would be wasting a lot of money and we would still be riding round on rock hard crossplys with inner tubes. Tyres are a very personal choice as confidence is all and for road use only you don't need supercorsas.
Agree, but they were fitted on the bike when I got it and I kind of was expecting some sort of black rubber epiphany. Confidence is absolutely the thing though, couldn't agree more. I find with Pirelli they're mega some days and on others shockingly bad. Very sensitive to temperature in my experience with the exception of the MT60RS which seem astonishingly ace in all weathers (but would look silly on a sports bike). Bridgestone I've had a lot of good experiences with, BT016, S21R and their sport touring rubber that was on the GS were all / are all great. Michelin are again a mixed bag, Anakee III PR2CT and PR4 have been excellent though... perhaps I have a slight prejudice against Michelin as I never got on with Hi Sports in the 90's despite world + cat being in love with them. To be fair to the Metzelers, I tried to get my dealer to put Racetec 7RR on the Beemer but they would only do SCs. Very personal choice though Agree.
See it's all personal preference. I thought the PR4s were rubbish - mismatched profiles from new and got worse with miles. Gave me no confidence at all. BT16 contributed to me losing the front end on a cold November day. Again thought the grip was poor. Supercorsas are ace on track but that really is what they are designed for. I have Metzeler Z8 on my Multi and they are perfect for me. It's not a new tyre but the latest sports touring tyres seem obsessed with wet grip at the expense of a quality feel in the dry.
My 748/853 is running Pirelli Rosso 3s at the moment. Great on the road but you can find their limits on track.
