748SP 1198S sleeper project

Discussion in 'Builds & Projects' started by Cranker V2, Nov 18, 2013.

  1. after another mechanical at a trackday I am now going to go down the route of transplanting an 1198S motor in the 748SP chassis I have sat in the shed. The 853R bike will be a donor for the wheels, suspension, brakes etc. The 853R motor will be rebuilt and sat lonely on a shelf..............

Bits I have ready for the build are as follows -

    Corse mag swingarm
    EVR big airbox
    MS production bodykit
Forks & shock (to be revalved & sprung) from 853R
Large capacity underseat breather (I have another spare and a standard capacity one if anyone interested)

Once this is complete it's endurance racing time in the open class with a 748..................

The ECU route depend on what is available. I may go down the nemesis route, or stick with 1.6m or go the 1198s route. Do I need DTC?

    One thing I know I short of it 1198/1098 headers and/or 996/998 54mm headers.

  2. Get traction if you can I reckon, theres a lot of torque thru that rear slick

  3. 175rwbhp and 100+ft/lbs is my target. The chassis is reasonably high spec - R&T forks, monoblocks, mag triple trees, corse swingarm, corse rear shock. Old school cool sort of thing. And it will be yellow, so not issues really.

  5. Keep wafting and showing off with that air box under my nose. However does it not require butchering for your 1198 lump? I have the faster red OEM one....

  6. Steve, are you sure? That sounds a little high to me. 170 at the crank sounds ballpark.

  12. I like yellow, and the bodywork is matching yellow too. Makes it very visible on track and draws commentators eye.

  13. And you can hide in a bowl of custard.

  17. oh did i say it was a bit yellow….:Watching:

  18. Your right Andyb, i need to get a new sprocket and nut. The one shown in the pic is a sprocket I had in box of bits, just trial fit to see what the clearance is with the acetal swingarm protector.
