749 749 For A Daily Commute

Discussion in '749 / 999' started by Ash, Jun 6, 2015.

  1. So tomorrow I'm picking up a 749 04 for my 50 mile round trip commut!

The bike is good and being brought from a friend. Just had done its £600 service at 8500 miles.

The choice was between a 636, gsxr 750 and the duc, the duc won just from the look of it!

Some may think I'm crazy but you only live once! Iv never done this before but I will try and write a report of this on here week by week.

Not seen it anywhere online and I think this bike deserves this.

Would be great to hear from others who have used there bike every day.

Names Ash, nice to meet you all

  2. My 999S has nearly 41000 miles on it - it would be more but it had a four-year lay-off. I'd sleep on it but that would hurt my back.

Welcome to the Forum. Have fun getting to know your 749! :upyeah:

  4. I have used my 848 for a 250 mile a week commute and it was a real pleasure..I picked weeks when the weather was good and my route is a361 which is a fantastic road..
    All weathers? Built up areas?...nope!

  5. I should of said I'll be doing Essex to London. And will be taking in as many A/Bish roads as I can

  13. That's first year for this place :upyeah:

  14. I used to do the A127, A13 commute into London when I was in Essex. Not too bad a ride, just the filtering when you get close to the city.

  15. Maybe I am young

  16. Not what you want in a built up area/30 limit. But apart from that, why not?

  17. I have a 2005 749S and use it daily for my commute in Sydney. Mainly all traffic, and between 4 and 12 miles each way, so only short.
The bike is a dream to filter on, so narrow, with my elbows being the outermost part.
The only issue is the temperature, it does often get around the 100 degree (centigrade) mark, which isn't ideal. And the clutch can be a little grabby, with so much time being spent in 1st gear. I should probably get myself a little 125cc commuter for such a short journey, or get on the bicycle, but the little duc is just too much fun.
    Good luck with yours

  18. Try riding the R model in traffic...its so much fun!

  19. So I got the bike... Its lovely! Rode it in london yesterday and got loads of looks.

Clutch is heavy compared to my TL1000R but I'll get use to that.
It got up too 104c at one point but at no point did I think the seat was that hot.
Sooo slim for getting through traffic.

And the looks I got!!! Felt really special to ride it.

It's now in my garage and will just be taken out to get used too for the next month then the long ride in every day will start from August... Looking forward to it.

Oh it cut out once but that was my doddgy clutch work

  20. good choice...I sold my 749S few years back and bought a new RC8R, but missed the 749 so swopped it for a 749R. Just something about them. Safe Riding.
