  1. So after a few posts on hear and alot of help and advice from members of the forum i have finaly purchased my first ducati 749 its a 04 model and is in fantastic condition very pleases one owner extensive service history just had major service and only 12k on the clock its great bike very very clean the only down aide to it is the corosion and flakey paint on the front light suround qitch apart from anything is just a bit anoying as the rest of bike is so good. Are there any way to repair these are they easy to get off if i try to take the front apart would sand blasting and re powdercoating be a good idea??
Winter is very close so il probably ride it for the last few nice days we have and then have a crack at it over the vinter along with a few carbon extras i have just brought
Any advice tips would be great
    Cheers

  2. its easy enough to do albeit time consuming and fiddly.

best bet is to remove and get powder coated

  3. I have a 999 and the headlight casing paint is flaking, when I took the fairings off the motor was just as bad, going to strip it all down this winter and give it some attention.

  4. I've been warned not to take the headlight shell to bits. They explode and are very fiddly to reassemble.

  5. there were no explosives in mine :)

perhaps another ducati scare mongering servicing ploy ???

  6. in the case of my temper, its highly likely that i would explode and be very fiddly to reassemble...

  7. it isnt too bad.
looking from the front all the bolts on the left hold the lights. all the bolts on the right clamp the 2 halfs together.

I put the upgraded dp magnesium one on mine in about 1.5 hours start to finish.
it does help if you have well behaving fingers

  8. So has yoir one been powdercoated ?? It looks like a nice job

  9. no its the dp magnesium jobby.
    2 pound lighter

  10. Where do you get that done ??same place as they would do powdercoating ??

  11. hi.
the standard one is grey and aluminium.
this is the ducati performance magnesium upgrade also fitted to some 749/999R's , that I fitted to mine as an upgrade. its not that difficult to do.

you can get the one you have powder coated as per the original or gold I suppose.

  12. Oh right ao this is a whole new part? Where did yiu buy it from?

  13. I was at Snells today and a brand new standard housing, (left and right halves) is only £150, so going to order one next week, pending confirmation of the cost of the Magnesium ones.

  14. magnesium if still available are hyper expensive. usually about 400ish secondhand/as new

  15. I think I will give that a miss and stick to standard for the time being:eek:

  16. Hi mate do you think thet would do a deal if we brought one each at the same time??? Or if we got a few people and started a post on hear we could se if they could do a bulk deal if we could get enough intereast??

  17. It is a possibility, there will no doubt be some 749/999 owners out there in the same position as us.

  18. Lets get a post going to see intereast then put it to them ?? May be.everyone to quote the webside on ordering to get a discount??

  19. Moved to Superbike

  20. I'm going to get mine powder coated as it's as flaky as my nans feet now. There is a place round the corner from my work that did my clutch plate in yellow and charged me a fiver, I'll report back on the cost for the housing.
