Maybe thinking of selling my 749 r on 08 plate with just over 10k miles in red but not really sure of its value ?? I can't find another for sale in the uk ?
the bad news is its only worth 4k now, the good news, I will give you 4.5k, just because, thats the kind of guy I am! Seriously, £7-8K. Not many come up, so hard to value.
£7 to £8 is what people ask but I think they struggle. That mileage I think £6-£7K so I would pay £5K if you needing a good home
I think that's a little pessimistic - I spent nearly two years looking for a 749R: I reckon that prices bottomed out about 18 months ago and have risen slightly since. Price is dependent on condition rather than year, except for the 04s, which seem to be worth £1k+ more. The lowest I saw one at was £5500 and a bit of a dog at that. A decent machine will be £7500-8500+ with the big thing being to learn to tell one that's had mostly road use from an ex-track or race machine that's had the stock fairings put back on for sale.
Now't wrong with running these things on track. That's what they were made for. More likely to have had regular oil changes in fact. Road-only Rs tend to be sunny Sunday only ornaments and don't get the regular thrashing they need. I'd pay the cheaper price for a well cared for ex race or track bike myself. Same as D16s and all other exotics - the ones that are used tend to fare better in my experience.
I do agree with you - Ducatis that are used regularly and hard and serviced on the nail are the most reliable, in my fairly extensive experience. So I've no problem with an ex track or race bike that's been looked after and described honestly. I have however seen several that were being sold by blatant bullshit merchants and, under the shiny carbon panels, were complete dogs.
Mine is an ex-race one. Only used on track. Not too pretty cosmetically but runs really sweet and is pampered regularly.
