749 749 Vs 999 Size?

Discussion in '749 / 999' started by Big Tav, Jun 6, 2015.

  1. Hi guys, I have a quick questions for you guys. I am looking at either getting a 999S or a Monster but I have seen the 749S comes in a Dark. I LOVE the matt black and I am now thinking (since I am not that fast of a rider anyway) if I am better off to get one of these as they are cheaper as well.

What I need to know is about the size of the bike. Is the 749/999 they same size bike only with a different engine or is the 999S a bigger bike? I am 6 ft and 110kg so need all the room I can get.

    Thanks!

  2. The dimensions are the same, they share the same frame/swingarm etc.

  3. Identical size. Different engine and probably a couple of minor other things. I've had both. Prefer the 999 hugely as it has more bottom end stomp. There is less gear changing involved and it is just as good or better on fuel. If you're a biggish bloke I'd have thought it would be more suited to you. Don't think there is a Dark version of the 999 but there is a black one, which I have. Endless people will now be along disagreeing with me.
    But I don't care!

  4. I agree.

  5. I'm similar dimensions to you and find 999 really comfortable. I put higher bars on mine.

  6. I've rode both but bought the 749 as the later version (red frame, black swing arm) looks slightly better in my humble opinion and was in my price range. The 999s I rode was fitted with a termi and was definitely quicker but not as quick as I was inspecting. Both 'S' models should have adjustable foot pegs as standard so you shouldn't have any problems fitting your 6foot frame on them. You'll be able to adjust the seat in three different settings if they are monopostos (single seat) as well.

  7. I'm similar size and find mine reasonably comfortable...I also have a sergeant seat which helps and a bit of tinkering with the rear sets and the seat can be moved too....

  8. ^that is STUNNING!!!

  9. I am nearly 6'2" - though shrinking due to creeping old age. I don't have too much trouble on the leg front but my neck hurts a bit sometimes. All that peering upwards I suppose.

I put higher bars on mine too (Helibars) which helped. I've found the stock pegs adjustable enough so haven't bothered with replacement rearsets.

Seat-wise they are very roomy (mines a mono).

PS - Well said Glid :)
