Discussion in 'Ducati General Discussion' started by simon Ridley, Mar 26, 2023.

  1. Hello.
Im looking for opinion on which bike ducatisti would like to own. I currently have a 749r but ive wanted a tricolore 1199 since they came out. Ive recently seen a tricolore i like but should i trade a 749r for one.
    Please help

  2. You’re going to to get a lot of subjective views I fear but what it comes down to is which bike you’d rather own…..?

  3. No way… keep the 749…

  5. What are you using it for?

If its purely a road bike then keep the 749R, if its for regular trackdays get the 1199.

I say that having owned a 999R and 1199S at the same time, I sold the 999R

  6. Depends why you want a bike.
They are very different those two - one is a jewel of early 2000’s engineering, the other is a blinged up standard 1199.

  8. I agree with others, to own any pre-Panigale R model Ducati like the 748R/749R/1098R etc is really special, proper hand-made bikes. The Tricolore really is a 1199 with a paint job, which is fine but it's not the same.

TBH Controversially I don't think any Panigale's 'R' models have been anywhere near as special as earlier bikes, because they often haven't had the same level of rarity, they have used the 'R' model name on stuff like Monsters, which has started to dilute it, and then in the case of the Panigale, you go buy an R model, but there's still the Superlegera..

  14. From what can be seen, that 04 749R deffo looks like a “keeper”.
Is that also a 748R/996R….not too shabby either!

  17. that’s probably the one I was thinking when I poked the bear… it is, I’m not sure maybe I’m stuck in the trellis framed 00’s
