750/900 Swing Arm Compatability??

  1. Can anyone confirm whether or not the Carby 600/750ss swing arm is the same as the 900ss or if interchangeable??
    :upyeah:

  2. DD racers use the Alloy arm in preference to the poverty spec steel one. Swap out is relatively simple, just ensure spacers and alignment are correct.

  3. They are interchangeable, as is the SSie more 'bubbly shaped' one I believe :)
I think there are a few variants of the carby ss ally swingarm too?

My 600 has a swingarm fitted which has a triangular profile tubed top section , my 750ss used to have a square profiled tube as the top section? strange. but true :)

  4. Just make sure that you don't get the early, dry clutch 750ss swinging arm, as they have a bigger pivot trunion, coupled to oilyte bushes in the engine instead of the needle rollers of all the other bikes. It would be possible to fit one of these arms with a little 'persuasion' but its probably better just to go for a 900ss one to begin with.

  5. The carbed 900SS ally or steel swingarms will fit the 600 and 750 carbed SS'ssss.......The 750SS ally swingarm as Chewy says is a bugger to fit.........

You can visually tell the difference between the 750 ally swingarm and the 900SS ally one.........If you need to see a 900SS ally one, see my later images of mine in the gallery.

However, there are two types of carbed 900SS ally swingarms that are 'common'.....they differ by the hoop brace depth......the earlier one has a shallow depth brace (say 35mm deep) and the later one is approx 50mm deep.......mine is the earlier one.

You may also find the spindle length is different as the steel one generally has circlips to keep the spindle in place, but not all the ally ones had the corclip groove......because mine is the early one it doesn't have the circlips and the spindle from the steel one fits full width in the ally one.....Not a problem though.

  6. Further to what Al said, my swing arm is alloy but different to the one he has. I think the one on the early 750/900 is from the last of the 89/90 ss, using up what they had laying round at the time!! But as I always say I could be wrong, they may have had good intentions to start off with.
