Hi all, I haven't posted for a while but have been trailing all other user posts getting hints and tips. So, after a long harsh winter, and a total of 7 months my bike is together, MOT'd and on the road. It feels great to have achieved it, this was my first go and the bike looks pretty decent if I do say so myself, my fuel filler cap needs replacing to top it off, that is pretty easy as they are readily available, however I am stuck with the standard fuel filler cap mount in silver. The bike is matte black with hints of carbon, and it looks a little out of place, and a tad scruffy. I have seen photos on the forum in which some people have black filler cap mounts. Any ideas? i have trailed spares and breakers and as yet no luck. Do I have to remove it and have it sprayed? does anyone have one? Are they even made in black? Thank you for any advice and help with this.
as far as I know the filler cap mount was always a (natural) aluminium colour. Apart from black anodise I can't think what would be impervious to petrol. This part turns up rarely but i have seen one or two over the years.
Thanks Chris. I figured as much. I guess anyone that has gone to the trouble to anodise parts won't be selling anytime soon. Any tips on where to get parts anodised?
that's the trouble these days - used to be able to walk round to 'the baths' at Plessey in the morning and it would be ready to take home same night. I have no idea where you could go these days as it's more specialist than steel plating etc plus not all aluminium is suitable. :- Metro Plating - Hard Anodising To DEF STAN 03-26 - Surface Finishing For Wear Resistance
Birchwood Casey Aluminium Black, no idea on how it'll last on a filler cap but it's a chemical treatment rather than paint.
